Well known local artist Matt Payovich will present a 6-week series of watercolor classes, “Exploring Art with Matt,” at the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad St., St. Joseph, MI beginning July 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. Participants should have basic drawing skills; however, the series is open to those 12 years of age and older. During the first class Matt will conduct a watercolor demonstration and provide a materials list to participants.
A minimum of 5 students must be registered for the series of classes to be held. The maximum number of participants will be 10. The non-refundable fee is $175 for non-members of the Berrien Artist Guild, Inc. and $150 for members. Matt served for several years as an art instructor at Lake Michigan College and the Krasl Art Center. He currently has work on exhibit in the Michiana Annual Arts Competition (MAAC) and will open a one-man show in the Box Factory’s Robert Williams Gallery on July 23rd, He is comfortable painting still-lifes, portraits, and even paintings of his favorite artist muse his dog Winston the Wunderdog. He has done commission work for both the Catholic and Congregational Churches locally which reflect his deep personal and spiritual interest in sacred images. He designed and created art for the Sacred Heart Adoration Chapel at the St. Joseph Catholic Church which includes mosaic tile pieces for the chapel’s altar.
