Description

A 4-week series of color linocut workshops will be offered by Hank Mattson in the Box Factory for the Arts Print Shop, 1101 Broad Street, beginning on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and continuing on April 15, 22 and 29.

The non-refundable fee for the series is $150 for members of the Berrien Artist Guild and $165 for non-members.

Workshop participants will be instructed on two methods of color block printing using linoleum. The first project will be reductive printing and the second will be multiple-blocks. Participants will have time to cut and print during class time. All supplies will be furnished.

Hank Mattson is an interdisciplinary artist living in Kalamazoo where he relocated from Utah for a residency at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Northern Arizona University and studied Italian art and culture in Siena, Italy. Currently, he is the artist-in-resident for the Printmaking Department of the Kirk Newman Art School within the KIA. He is exploring new forms of etching and mezzotinting to create rich, luxurious intaglio prints.

Hank will also offer a series of workshops on basic Intaglio printmaking in May and will have an exhibit of his work at the Box Factory in the Fall. When not creating art, he can be found skateboarding, cooking, reading and spending time with family.
