This on-going class is open to all levels of experience and ability, from beginners above middle school age. Advanced artists may attend to use it as a practice session and an opportunity to work from the live model.

There is no sign-up or registration for this class. Walk-ins are encouraged. Please bring your own materials to draw or paint. The environment is non threatening and all the artists are encouraging and supportive of each other. Criticism and correction comments are offered when requested.

Recommended Materials for Charcoal Drawing or Pastel Painting:

• Large charcoal drawing pad (I prefer 18” x 22” white – ex. Strathmore, look for the word charcoal not drawing or sketching) or Large sheets of pastel paper (prefer 19 1/2” x 25” gray tinted – ex. Canson Mi-Tientes Steel Gray)
• drawing board (slightly larger than paper – ½” foam board works great)
• “vine” charcoal sticks (thin works best)
• charcoal pencils and sticks (of various hardness – softer ones preferred) or pastel set (prefer set of 48 or larger – ex. Prismacolor Nu-pastel 96 piece set works best)
• kneadable eraser
• hand mirror
• large paper clamps or masking tape (to hold sheets of paper to drawing board)
