The Berrien Artist Guild, Inc. Board of Directors recently appointed Salle Huber and Nicole Pierard to one year terms to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Bret Witkowski. Both Salle and Nicole tied in votes during the 2020/21 election for board positions; however, all incumbents were elected. Since the by-laws allow for 12 board members, it was decided to appoint both members to director positions on the board. Both Salle and Nicole have studio space at the Box Factory and serve as volunteers at the reception desk.
Salle Huber
SALLE HUBER In her studio, The Aware Lab on the Riverwalk level, Salle teaches movement. She has been a movement teacher for the past 13 years, teaching both Pilates and the Melt Method. She has past board experience with the Hinsdale, IL Historical Society. Other non-profit experience includes an internship at the Bloomington Area Arts Council, Volunteer Coordinator and Liaison for the Goodman Theater Women’s Board and a Special Events Manager for the Hinsdale Humane Society.
Nicole Pierard
NICOLE PIERARD Nicole is a visual artist who shares a studio with Marten Meyer on the Riverwalk Gallery. She has volunteered at receptions and as the Box representative for Lake Effect Jazz rehearsals. She regularly hosts open houses in her studio. She has been a Financial Analyst, an Attorney’s Assistant and a French teacher. While living in Europe, she created her own non-profit organization.
ST. JOSEPH, MI – Then, Now and Always… The St. Joseph River Story, a new documentary by WNIT (PBS Michiana), will be previewed at the Box Factory for the Arts, 1101 Broad Street, at a 2 pm matinee on Sunday, August 29. The documentary will premiere on WNIT on Thursday, September 9, at 8 p.m. The Box Factory screening is free and open to the public.
The new documentary is part of a collaborative effort this summer by communities along the River to “Celebrate the St. Joe.” The Box Factory has been participating since July 23rd with a River-themed exhibit “At the River’s End” in the Sky View Gallery on the third floor The exhibit will continue through September 12.
WNIT tells the story of the St. Joseph River, including the people, history and life along this storied river from Hillsdale to Lake Michigan. The documentary celebrates how the River has shaped the region and continues to be an integral part of the communities along its banks. The river runs through the history and tradition of the Box Factory from its beginning up to the present. From it’s start in 1903 on the St. Joseph riverfront, the Box Factory Paper Manufacturing Co.(now the Box Factory for the Arts) has enjoyed a river view.
Photographers of all ages are invited to enter “ReShoot,” the Box Factory for the Arts photo show to be on exhibit July 23 through September 12. An opening reception will be held on July 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Photographers are limited to two entries for which a $5 per photo entry fee will be charged. Photos must fit into the categories of still life, people, animals or landscape. All images must start in the camera and be taken by the photographer entering the show. Manipulation or enhancements made to the photo are acceptable. Ribbons will be awarded to 1st place and runner up photographs for each category.
Photos will be accepted at the Box Factory, 1101 Broad St., St. Joseph, MI on July 16 and 17 from noon to 4 p.m. They must be wired for hanging. No saw-tooth hangers, hanging loops or easel-back frames will be accepted.
Susan Johnston of Stevensville will judge the show. Susan began her photographic career 40 years ago; and worked to develop her style by attending the Santa Fe Workshops and the Brooks Institute. She has exhibited her work at the Buchanan Art Center, Fernwood, the Box Factory for the Arts, Lakeland Hospital, and the Gilmore Car Museum. In 2018 she was awarded Best Photograph at the Midwest Museum of American Art.
With only a few weeks left to view the MAAC show at the Box Factory for the Arts, the Gallery Committee is gearing up for four upcoming exhibitions which will appear in the galleries July 23rd through September 12th. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
The Williams and Whitlow galleries will feature the works of two local artists David Baker and Matt Payovich. While in the Riverwalk gallery the public will be able to view the return of the RESHOOT: The Box Factory Photo Show. And our newest gallery on the 3rd floor or Sky level will host a Pop-Up Show “At The River’s End” which will coincide with the release of a new documentary titled, Then, Now and Always…The St. Joseph River Story produced by WNIT.
